Geostationary satellites have an orbital period, which is identical to the Earth's and consequently are always located over the same place on the Earth’s surface. Geostationary satellites are used largely for telecommunication purposes and it is difficult to imagine our day-to-day activity without such satellites as they are now an integral part of global telecommunication systems.
